4 Ways to Protect your Business Account

As a small business owner, you’re tasked with many day-to-day responsibilities. With one of them being protecting your business and customers from scams, it is important to know that fraudsters are always trying to come up with sophisticated ways to steal sensitive information. That’s why OceanFirst Bank is sharing these important tips to help keep your business accounts safe:

Educate your employees. If you read our last blog, Tips to Protect Your Small Business from a Cyberattack, then you’ll know that you and your employees are the first line of defense against an account takeover. A strong security program paired with employee education about warning signs, safe practices, and responses to a suspected takeover are essential to protecting your company and customers.

Protect your online environment. It is important to protect your cyber environment just as you would other aspects of your business. Do not use unprotected internet connections and restrict users’ ability to install and run software applications on network devices. Also, encrypt sensitive data and keep updated virus protections on your computer.

Partner with your bank to prevent unauthorized transactions. Talk to your financial institution about the products and services that can safeguard your accounts from unauthorized transactions.

At OceanFirst Bank, we offer the latest technology that can give our customers peace of mind knowing that keeping their information safe is our priority. Check out some of our solutions designed to help make monitoring your accounts even easier:

  • Transaction Notifications – this service allows you to customize alerts specific to your account activity
  • Card Control – a safe, secure, and convenient way to keep tabs on your debit card transactions by allowing you to set alerts, receive text and email notifications, restrict usage types, set spending limits and more!

Pay attention to suspicious activity and react quickly. Look out for unexplained account or network activity, pop ups, and suspicious emails. If detected, immediately contact your financial institution, stop all online activity, and remove any systems that may have been compromised.

Please note that OceanFirst Bank will never call and ask you for your full account number, PIN, debit card number or full SSN.
