Christopher Maher, the chief executive officer of OceanFirst Bank, says he feels good about how the state government and New Jersey’s residents have responded to the COVID-19 pandemic. But he knows the crisis isn’t over.
“You can’t fix the economy without fixing the health care crisis and we’re very proud of the work that’s been done in our communities to get the number of cases down, to be really careful and thoughtful about the reopening process to go through the staging to make sure we’re doing the testing and I think that’s worked,” he says. “But it’s a tenuous balance and as you can see, there were a couple of irresponsible events held in New Jersey in the last couple weeks. That has to stop. We have to wear masks. This is not terribly complicated if we all come together.”
Maher and Editor Jeff Kanige talked about the response and the prospects for an economic recovery in a new edition of NJBIZ Conversations. Watch the full interview here.
